Siraj, Maqsood elected KPC president, secretary

KARACHI: The Democrats won the Karachi Press Club election for 2017 with a heavy majority on Saturday.

According to the results announced by the election commission, Siraj Ahmed of ARY News and Maqsood Ahmed Yousufi of Nai Baat newspaper were elected president and secretary with 464 and 497 votes, respectively.

Their rivals, Abid Hussain of Dunya newspaper and Amir Shaikh of ARY News, who were the candidates of the Journalists Panel for president and secretary, got 225 and 177 votes, respectively.

Syed Minhaj-ur-Rab of Jang was elected vice president with 425 votes. Moosa Kaleem of Herald, who got the highest votes (518), and Naimat Khan of Geo television, with 464 votes, were elected treasurer and joint secretary.

All the seven seats of the governing body were also won by the candidates of The Demo­crats. They are: Arif Hussain Hashmi (459), Jawed Asghar Chaudhry (491), Liaquat Ali Khan (399), Muhammad Hanif Akbar (422), Saeed Sarbazi (501), Shams Keerio (498) and Suhail Rafiq (402).
