Rival prisoners shifted to Attock, Jhelum jails
RAWALPINDI: The two under trial prisoner groups, who clashed on Wednesday night in the heavily guarded Adiala jail, were shifted on Friday to Attock and Jhelum district jails, in anticipation that they might create serious security problem.
A fight broke out between the two groups over the serving of food to prisoners on Wednesday night which left one prisoner injured and prompted the authorities to review security arrangements.
However, the jail’s superintendent claimed it was just a scuffle between prisoners, who were later put in solitary confinement.
“They just scuffled and did not use [a weapon] as the situation was controlled in time,” the superintendent said.
According to police sources two groups of prisoners in Barrack No 3 kicked, punched and beat one another over serving food to a member of one of the groups, with both groups saying they should have been served first.
