Karachi Eat Festival gets off to soggy start

KARACHI: The annual Karachi Eat Festival got off to a soggy start on Friday at the Frere Hall gardens as the first day of the much-anticipated event was washed out on account of the city’s first winter rains.

The organisers, playing it safe, decided to call off the first day of the food festival after a few stalls became wet and there was an added fear of electrical short circuit. Later in the evening, it was announced the event would not be held on Saturday (today).

However, the first winter showers of the metropolis apparently failed to dampen the spirits of the people or the organisers, who braved the chill of the January rain to take a break and seek their favourite gastronomic delights under the open skies.

A large number of visitors were already present at the fest when it was closed for the day. Many more were disappointed to be turned away from the gates.

At the time of writing, activities for Sunday, the third day of the three-day event, were still on schedule.
