Chinese firm interested in Gujrat Smart City plan

GUJRAT: A Chinese investment company has shown interest in developing the ‘Gujrat Smart City’ project.

For this purpose, a Chinese delegation held a day-long meeting with officials of the local administration, heads of the civic bodies as well as the ruling PML-N lawmakers from Gujrat here on Thursday.

Umar Masood Faruqi, a member of PML-N’s central manifesto committee who designed the project for his native town in collaboration with the Punjab government and invited the Chinese company, told Dawn that the plan would include projects like solid waste management, supply of clean drinking water, regulation of traffic, installation of security cameras, establishment of industrial zone and production of electricity etc.

The meeting between the Chinese delegation led by Mr Waan and the representatives of Gujrat was held at the circuit house which was also attended by District Council Chairman Tanveer Kotla, Municipal Corporation Mayor Haji Nasir Mehmood, PML-N lawmakers Mian Tariq Mehmood, Nawabzada Haider Mehdi, Ashraf Deona, and Shabeer Kotla.

Gujrat Deputy Commissioner Liaqat Ali Chatha briefed the delegation about the administrative structure of the district.

Mr Waan and other members of the delegation said that their company while keeping in view the needs of district administration, district council and municipal corporation would plan accordingly.
