Senator asked to pay Rs1.37m for keeping govt vehicle for nine years

Dr Abdul Qayyoom Soomro

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Interior has issued a notice to Pakistan Peoples Party Senator Dr Abdul Qayyoom Soomro for the payment of over Rs1.37 million within 15 days.

Dr Soomro has been accused of ‘illegally’ using a vehicle of the Frontier Constabulary (FC) since 2008.

The vehicle was recovered from him by the FC a few weeks ago.

After the recovery of the vehicle, Dr Soomro, who is known as a close aide to former president Asif Ali Zardari, claimed that the vehicle was a government property entrusted to him and he had returned it.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior on Monday, the notice has been issued considering the loss and maintenance of the vehicle during the past many years.

The statement claims that the vehicle was being used at the house of Dr Soomro and he has been advised to pay the amount within 15 days.

Dr Soomro could not be contacted despite many attempts.
