Pervaiz critical of Multan Metro project

LAHORE: Had billion of rupees ‘wasted’ on jangla (Metro) bus in Multan been spent on ventilators in hospitals and education, the future of coming generations would have been secured.

This was stated by PML-Q central leader Pervaiz Elahi while talking to reporters here on Tuesday.

He said the governments were supposed to provide employment to the people “but here the case is otherwise.”

“Jangla bus has rendered rickshaws, taxi and van drivers unemployed as a result of which crime will increase,” he said, adding Shahbaz Sharif was misleading the people by saying that this would be an economical travel facility.

He said huge taxpayers’ money would be spent as subsidy on the project.

The former deputy prime minister said public money was being paid for advertising the PML-N projects.

“If Rs28.8 billion incurred on Multan Metro bus was utilised for providing basic facilities to the people, not only human lives could be saved but the living standard of the masses would also have been improved,” he said adding that the residents of Multan needed ventilators and medicines in hospitals and quality education and not ‘jangla’ bus. “The city has been divided into two parts through Metro bus and the people have not been paid market price of their lands.”
