Inaugural Punjab Squash League set for March

LAHORE: The Punjab Squash Association (PSA) will hold the first-ever Punjab Squash League from first week of March at the Punjab Squash Complex, its president Dr Nadeem Mukhtar said while speaking as a guest of the Sports Journalists Association of Lahore (SJAL) here on Thursday.

The PSA chief further said that seven teams would be formed and every team will have seven players of different categories. One player of U-11, U-13, U-15, U-17, U-19 age groups and one each from senior and women’s will form a team.

“The league, will be organised quarterly in a year, and it will carry a record prize money of Rs 7.5 million for each quarter. Our top priority is to take the Pakistan squash to the highest level, and the league may prove a first step towards this goal,” he said.

PSA secretary Shiraz Saleem said that the association would also sponsor top players of Punjab and would also send them abroad to feature in the international events to improve their rankings.

“The PSA has also increased the number of tournaments and this year, we will try to engage players in the events throughout the year and try to make them financially strong.”
