SC issues notice to Nadra chief

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar has taken a suo motu notice of “unnecessary exorbitant fee” the National Database and Registration Authority is charging overseas Pakistanis for issuance and cancellation of Pakistan Origin Card (POC).

Justice Nisar directed the Nadra chairman to submit a report before the Supreme Court within 10 days.

The apex court issued the suo motu notice on the complaint of an overseas Pakistani who said the increase in fee was putting financial burden on overseas Pakistanis.

According to the complaint, the POC fee was earlier increased to $150 from $100 and then to Rs22,000 for preparation and Rs31,500 for cancellation of the card. The complainant alleged that the Nadra’s move has discouraged the overseas Pakistanis to opt for the POC.
