CTD man, two suspects killed in ‘encounter’

FAISALABAD: A counter terrorism department (CTD) inspector and two suspected terrorists were killed in an ‘encounter’ in Garh Fateh Shah police precincts on Sunday.

Two policemen -- a DSP, a corporal -- and a foot tracer also sustained injuries.

A CTD senior officer told Dawn that a team from Sahiwal on a tip-off raided an outhouse in Shade Ke Dulu, Harappa. On seeing the team, the suspects opened fire, killing Inspector Fida Husain on the spot and injuring DSP Iqbal Joiya and corporal Ramzan.

He said Fida was CTD district officer at Pakpattan and had additional charge of Sahiwal DO. “Joiya and Ramzan are stable at hospital while foot tracker was also injured in the incident.”

The official claimed that the team arrested four suspects while their three accomplices managed to escape who were chased and spotted near Garh Fateh Shah.

He claimed that during the ‘crossfire’ two of them were killed and “one is still at large.”

He said one of the deceased identified as Zeeshan alias Shani was allegedly involved in murder attempt on the Sahiwal CTD district officer on Dec 30 last, and killing of two men Khalid Butt and Dr Qasim who were murdered in February and November 2016.He said arms and explosives were recovered from the custody of suspects.

Our Sahiwal correspondent adds: Funeral prayers for Fida Husain were offered at Police Lines. Later, his body was sent to Samundri for burial.
