Rawalpindi capture Under-19 regional championship
RAWALPINDI, July 24: Rawalpindi emerged the PCB Under-19 Inter-district champions of the Rawalpindi region on Thursday after drawing their match with Chakwal at Army Cricket Stadium with Islam-abad slipping to third behind Jhelum.
The match began at 1.00pm because of rain with Rawalpindi declaring their first innings closed at the overnight total of 130 for seven, a lead of one run.
The home side then dismissed Chakwal for 110, Khalid Mushtaq picking up four for 36 and Usman Saeed taking three for 23.
Chasing 110 to win in 16 overs, Rawalpindi finished on 106 for eight when play ended. Owais Zia was the main wicket-taker with three for 20 while Mohammad Zubair and Shakir Ali shared four wickets.
The three points they earned by virtue of having gained a first innings lead, gave Rawalpindi a total of 15 points. They had one victory and lead points from two games while another two of their matches were washed out.
Islamabad, playing at KRL Stadium against an under-rated Jhelum, conceded a lead of five runs, their innings coming to an end at 269 after they had resumed at 62 for one.
Umar Khattak who scored 88 and Rana Ijaz whose contribution was 40 did well for Islamabad who were restricted by slow left armer Rizwan Sadiq who captured an incredible seven wickets for 62 runs. Atif Shah took three for 87.
With one victory and first innings lead points from one match, Islamabad collected 12 points while Jhelum had as many.
However Jhelum because of superior net run rate took second place.
Meanwhile, there was no play in the match between Azad Jammu Kashmir and Attock at Shalimar Ground in Islamabad.
AJK finished with three points in the championship while Attock had none.

Our Correspondent adds from Hyderabad: Sanghar’s Ibrar Zeeshan and Zubairuddin scored half centuries as the Hyderabad region match against Badin ended in a draw at Niaz Stadium.
Sanghar, however, got three points on the basis of first innings lead.
Badin resumed the day at 32 for three afte the rains disrupted the first day on Wednesday were all out for 139 in 49 overs.
Shahzaib Nawaz scored an unbeaten 31 while Ali Hyder made 23.
Sanghar’s Zubairuddin claimed three for 34, Yasir Rasool two for 42, Afzal Mehmood two for 13 and Naseer Ahmed two for 27.
Sanghar, in reply, reached 163 for four in 36 overs in the remaining time. Ibrar Zeeshan and Zubairuddin remained unbeaten with 61 and 50 respectively while Rana Pervez hit 34.
