FIA submits initial report on PSL spot-fixing to interior minister

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Friday submitted its initial report on the Pakistan Super League (PSL) spot-fixing scandal to Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.

The initial report focuses on the measures taken to stop spot-fixing during the tournament and important clues pointing to players' involvement.

The information and evidence presented by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will also be forensically examined.

The issue of the deletion of messages from the cell phones of players involved will also be investigated in order to determine which players were in contact with spot fixers and to determine the specifics of the contacts, the FIA said.

Nisar said that a thorough investigation should be carried out as the incident portrayed a "negative image" of the country.

He also instructed the FIA to complete its investigation as soon as possible.

In a separate development, the Anti-Corruption Unit of the PCB summoned Shahzeb Hassan and Mohammad Irfan for questioning in the coming week.

They will be questioned in connection with the ongoing inquiry, according to PCB sources.

“PCB has summoned Irfan and Shahzeb. Irfan will appear before the ACU on Monday while Shahzeb will appear on Tuesday,” said PCB’s media director.

The PCB official added the ACU will question both players and then will take its decision on the charge sheet.
