Bahawalpur, Sialkot, Hyderabad seal two-day wins
KARACHI: Bahawalpur, Sialkot and Hyderabad all enjoyed two-day wins in the second round of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Grade-II Cricket Tournament on Sunday.
Bahawalpur chalked their second straight victory by annihilating Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK) by innings and 81 runs at the Dring Stadium in Bahawalpur after centuries from the overnight pair of skipper Adeel Basit (132 not out off 222 balls, nine fours) and opener Mudassar Nazir (107 off 178, 13 fours) enabled the hosts reach 340-9 in the allotted 83 overs.
Starting their second innings with a deficit of 197 runs, AJK were only able to reach 116 in 39.4 overs. Leg-spinning all-rounder Imranullah Aslam grabbed 5-17 to finish with match figures of 9-54, while paceman Mohammad Imran took 4-65.
Sialkot began their campaign in style as they thrashed Larkana by 10 wickets at the Multan Cricket Stadium.
Larkana, who resumed their overnight first innings at 55-2, were forced to follow on after being all out for 162. Paceman Mohammad Irfan and slow left-armer Abdur Rehman shared eight wickets between them.
Batting again, Larkana collected 233 all out with Mohammad Urs making 84 and Asif Babar 50. Ex-international Mansoor Amjad captured five wickets for 53 runs.
After being soundly beaten by Abbottabad in the first match, Hyderabad bounced back to defeat Dera Murad Jamali by eight wickets at the Niaz Stadium in Hyderabad.
Nauman Ali and Nasir Awais starred in the Hyderabad success. Resuming at a jittery 99-6 in reply to DMJ’s 141, the hosts reached 206 all out with Nauman (66 not out) and Nasir (39) adding 64 for the ninth wicket.
The duo then combined to take eight wickets between then as DMJ were bowled out for 111 in the second innings. Off-spinner claimed 5-19 and slow left-armer Nauman 3-44.
Quetta made a spirited comeback to collect 348-9 in response to Abbottabad’s 444-2 declared here at the National Stadium. The highlights being the 167-run stand for the fifth wicket between skipper Taimur Ali (114 not out off 228 balls, 10 fours and one six) and Rameez Raja (102 off 135, 10 fours and two sixes).
