Large arms cache recovered from Quetta
Police in Quetta on Monday recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition and claimed that a “major terror bid was foiled”.
“Unknown miscreants had dumped weapons of various kinds,” said Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Abdul Razzaq Cheema.
The weapons included machine guns, AK-47 assault rifles, other arms and over 400 rounds of ammunition.
The senior police official added that the weapons were recovered from a compound in the Nawan Killi area of the provincial capital.
Police recovered the weapons acting on a tip-off. No suspects were arrested from the compound, added Cheema.
"Efforts are ongoing to dismantle the terrorists network in Quetta,” the DIG said.
Balochistan has been experiencing incidents of violence and targeted killings for over a decade. The largest province of the country by area, is home to a insurgency by ethnic Baloch separatists.
Al Qaeda-linked and sectarian militants also operate in the region. The province shares borders with Afghanistan and Iran.
