Explosives found in Khairpur locality safely defused
KHAIRPUR: Explosive material in considerable quantity was seized after it was found placed outside a house in Sirai Ghanwar Khan Mohallah in Khairpur city on Tuesday.
Khairpur SSP Ghulam Azfar Mahesar told a press conference that police and Rangers personnel cordoned off the area after calling in the bomb disposal squad (BDS), which safely neutralised the explosive material.
He said that a citizen spotted a suspicious shopping bag lying outside the house and immediately informed police on ‘Madadgar 15’ helpline. The SSP said that police and Rangers personnel, along with the BDS staffers, rushed to the spot and cordoned off the entire locality.
The BDS examined the bag’s contents, which included a detonator, 80 grams of class-3 explosive material, a safety fuse, two kilograms of calcium ammonium nitrate, 1.1kg of steel nails, ball bearings, steel and battery hooks, nuts and bolts, etc. The BDS safely neutralised the explosive material before declaring the locality ‘clear’.
