Pakistan discard Umar Akmal hits ton in Grade-II event

KARACHI: Just a day after being deemed ineligible for Pakistan selection, Umar Akmal proved his match fitness with a stroke-laden century on Thursday while leading Candyland in their second-round Patron’s Trophy Grade-II Cricket Tournament match against Haideri Traders.

Umar, omitted for the upcoming limited-overs series in the West Indies, banged a quickfire 124 from only 128 balls as the right-hander struck 18 boundaries and four sixes as Candyland collected 431-9 in the stipulated 83 overs at the NBP Sports Complex.

Mohammad Bilal (78) added 117 for the fifth wicket with Adil Akram who hit an undefeated 129 off 124 deliveries (18 fours and one six) Haideri Traders reached 18-0 in their response when stumps were draw for the day.

Injury-prone Pakistan batsman Haris Sohail continued his comeback with a second successive century in ZTBL’s relatively modest tally of 218 all out against Army at the latter’s home ground in Rawalpindi. The left-hander followed his unbeaten 119 against POL three days ago with 101 off 221 balls (10 fours and one six).

Karachi Port Trust (KPT) took lead on day of the three-day fixture by reaching 160-5 after bowling out Pak Saudi for 154 at the SBP Sports Complex.

State Bank were struggling at 147-6 after dismissing Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for 219 at the UBL Sports Complex.

Mohammad Naqqash scored 101 (197 balls, 14 fours) to help Imex post 327-9 against CDA at the National Ground in Islamabad.

Atif Ali Zaidi slammed an unconquered 110 (200 balls, 10 fours0 as Port Qasim Authority declared at 317-9 against Rahat & Shuja Impex who then made 37-0 at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad.

Pakistan Television were in complete control by posting 228-3 after having shot out Higher Education Commission (HEC) for a paltry 85 at the Rana Naved-ul-Hasan Academy in Sheikhupura.

Fahad Usman compiled a 202-ball 115 (15 fours) to help Income Tax make 222-5 in 64 overs versus Humak Engineering at the Jinnah Stadium in Gujranwala.

Ashfaq Ahmed excelled with a stroke-filled 154 (179 balls, 13 fours and five sixes) as Brighto Paints amassed 368-5 in 73 overs against K-Electric at the LCCA Ground in Lahore.
