Drive launched in Swabi to rename girls college
SWABI: The members of Topi Jirga and All Neighbourhood Councils Ittehad Topi (ANCIT) have launched a campaign to rename Kotha Girls Degree College as Topi Girls Degree College.
Addressing a gathering here on Monday, they criticised authorities concerned for taking a decision to merge Frontier Education Foundation Girls Degree College Topi with Kotha Girls Degree College.
“The institution has been built on our land. Why it has been named as Kotha Girls College,” they questioned, adding that the wrong decision of the government forced them to launch a campaign against it.
They said that in first phase of the campaign they would meet Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, his brother MNA Aqibullah Khan, Topi tehsil nazim Sohail Yousafzai and joint resolution would be moved by local government representatives in the tehsil council for the purpose.
An action committee was formed on the occasion to tackle the issue. Zahir Shah, president of ANCIT, said that they would file a writ petition in the court to challenge the decision of the government if the issue was not tackled amicably.
“We have checked the land documents. Our demand is genuine. If anyone has any doubt, he can check the land record,” he said.
CONTRACTORS: The leaders of Swabi Contractors Association (SCA) have rejected the allegation of bribing PTI leaders for execution of the ongoing projects in the district.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, they said that none of them paid any commission to anyone in the PTI government. They said that they were always asked to complete the projects and maintain the required standard.
The contractors said that it was alleged that Asad Qaiser took commission in Kunda-Kalabat road but nothing came into seen during the construction and the allegations levelled against him were baseless.
However, they admitted that funds were delayed and contractors stopped work on various project in the district in November last.
