Zain, Imran inspire Multan to victory

KARACHI: Inspired by centuries from Zain Abbas and Imran Rafiq, Multan completed a come-from-behind win over Larkana in their Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Grade-II Cricket Tournament match in Bahawalpur on Tuesday.

After conceding a lead of 79 on the first innings during Monday’s second day at the Dring Stadium, Multan took the remaining three Larkana wickets cheaply with slow left-armer Ali Usman finishing with 6-55.

Chasing 255, Multan made it ludicrously simple as opener Zain and Imran shared a second-wicket partnership of 213. Zain contributed 124, a 179-ball knock laced with 12 boundaries, while fellow left-hander Imran finished unbeaten on 112 with his 159-ball effort punctuated with 10 fours.

Sialkot trounced Bahawalpur by 10 wickets in the other Group ‘A’ fixture at the Multan Cricket Stadium.

Former Pakistan spinner and Sialkot skipper Abdur Rehman grabbed six wickets for 53 runs in 23.3 overs as Bahawalpur were all out for 186.

Dera Murad Jamali sealed a nine-wicket victory over Quetta in their Group ‘B’ clash at the Niaz Stadium in Hyderabad.

The last round of fixtures before the semi-finals begins from Thursday.
