Kangaroos sweep hockey series against Pakistan

LAHORE: Australia beat Pakistan 5-3 in the fourth and last match of the hockey series in Darwin, Australia, on Saturday.

This way the Kangaroos clean swept the series.

For Australia, Kiran Arunasalam (4th minute), Mark Knowles (10th), Trent Mitton (30th), Aaron Kleinschmidt (42nd) and Flynn Ogilvie (60th) scored the goals.

Abu Mahmood scored two goals for Pakistan, first in the fourth minute and the other in the 23rd minute. Umar Bhutta struck one goal in the 21st minute.

Australia head coach Colin Batch said after the match: “We’ve grown a lot, we’ve tried some different things and we take all of that forward to Azlan Shah. I’m very pleased with our progress in these four matches.”

Australia will next take part in the Azlan Shah Cup in Ipoh, Malaysia, by the end of this month.

Pakistan, a regular participant at this event since its inception, has not been invited by the host as they considered Great Britain in place of it.

The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has not lodged a protest before its Malaysian counterpart, rather it has asked its High Commission in Kuala Lumpur to intervene. So far, no result has been achieved.
