MMA’s support to Musharraf decried

LAHORE, July 28: Pakistan Labour Party Secretary-General Farooq Tariq has said that the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal offer to General Pervez Musharraf to remain as president for five years exposes the undemocratic attitude of the religious parties.

Condemning the MMA offer in a statement here on Monday, the Labour Party leader said that religious parties had always supported the dictators and would continue doing so in future as well.

He said the MMA wanted to give five years presidentship to a general whose government was instrumental in increasing inflation and unemployment in the country. He alleged that it was nothing but a compromise formula of the MMA to save its governments in the NWFP and Balochistan.

The MMA was dubbing the general as the friend of the US and the enemy of the Muslims till recently but had now agreed to get him elected as the president for its vested interest, he added. —Reporter
