Khuzdar faces unannounced outages

KHUZDAR: Khuzdar and its surrounding areas are facing hours-long unannounced loadshedding that is badly affecting people’s normal life.

“We are facing 16 to 18 hours of loadshedding daily while the prime minister and members of his cabinet are claiming that loadshedding will end across the country over the next few months,” Manzoor Ahmed, a resident of Khuzdar town, told Dawn, adding that the increasing temperature was further worsening the situation.

The people of Khuzdar are also facing acute shortage of drinking water as the public health department is unable to provide them water due to non-availability of power supply.

The prolonged outages have badly affected people’s businesses and agricultural production. Dozens of operations had to be postponed in Khuzdar teaching hospital due to disruption of power supply.

“We cannot irrigate our orchards and standing crops,” Abdullah Khan, a local landlord, said, adding that farmers’ crops were destroying due to non-availability of water. He appealed to the chief minister to take steps for smooth supply of electricity.
