Census will be completed at all costs, vows General Bajwa

Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Monday visited the Army Census Support Centre (CSC) at the headquarters of Army Air Defence Command in Rawalpindi and said "the census would be completed at all costs", the military's media wing said.

During the visit, General Bajwa was briefed on details about the support being extended to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics and the progress of the census so far, the Inter-Services Press Relations (ISPR) reported.

Gen Bajwa lauded the efforts of the Army CSC in the census, paying tributes to the soldiers and enumerators who laid down their lives while performing their national duty, ISPR reported.

"The census would be completed at all costs," ISPR quoted Gen Bajwa as saying.

He said the smooth conduct of the census was the collective success of the army and the government.

Earlier upon arrival, the army chief was received by the Army CSC chairman and Commander Army Air Defence Command Lt Gen Zahid Latif Mirza.

Last week, six people, including four Army soldiers and an off-duty Air Force airman, lost their lives after a suicide bomber targeted a census team in Lahore's Bedian Road area.

The attack, which was claimed by the proscribed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, injured at least 19 others, according to the provincial government.
