Hyderabad bags SSB Inter-district Softball Championship crown
KARACHI: Hyderabad beat Karachi to clinch the Sindh Sports Board (SSB) Inter-District Women’s Softball Championship which concluded in Khairpur on Monday night.
According to organizers here on Tuesday, the winners scored 19 runs in the allotted three innings whereas the Karachi team could score 11 runs.
In the first innings, Hyderabad put six on the board against Karachi’s five. In the second innings, the winners made six whereas Karachi scored five. In the final innings Hyderabad came up with another seven taking the overall score to 19 while Karachi could not score even a single run.
Thus Hyderabad won the fifth edition of SSB Inter-District event by a margin of eight runs.
From the winners side Rabia, Sunita, Aaiza, Urooj and Tulsi scored three runs each. For the runners-up Bushra, Reema, Sherril, Aliza and Adina scored two runs each.
Deputy Commissioner Khairpur, Muhammad Salim Rajput, was the chief guest in the final and gave away the prizes.
In his remarks on the occasion, he said that the event not only provided the participants a chance to display their talent and abilities but it also helped foster harmony and the spirit of understanding.
Rajput said that the Sindh Softball Association (SSA) organized the championship in an excellent manner and for this they deserve commendation, especially Asif Azeem, Zeeshan Merchant, Muhammad Nasir, Aisha Irum, Pervez Shaikh whereas Faraz Ejaz proved to be the main spirit behind the championship.
Chairman District Council Khairpur, Sheharyar Wassan, speaking on the occasion, said: “Our aim is to introduce the players from Sindh on the national as well as the international scene and for this entire available resources would be utilized.”
Salim Rajput alongwith Wassan gave away the winners’ trophy, medals and a cash prize of Rs 30,000 to the captain of Hyderabad, Urooj Kanwal.
Runners up Karachi team received a trophy, medal and a cash prize of Rs. 15,000. Third position holder Khairpur team were given trophy and medals.
