Opinion: Play hooky or be in attendance at school

“Ah! Lectures are so boring, let’s bunk today”, “Chemistry! No! Let’s move toward the library.” These are common statements that we hear from our friends and buddies in school and college. ‘Playing hooky’ is a term which means bunking classes or truanting.

Most students bunk classes, but why? When lectures turn out boring and teachers get too much to take, then the easy way of escaping from all this is bunking classes. Even if you are not bunking a class, some other kid in your class is. So it is no wonder that you may also bunk the class, maybe not because you find the lecture boring but because you can’t refuse your friends’ wish.

Obviously, no one likes being left out and disliked by the cool group of the class and this peer pressure is another awful reason behind bunking. Another reason some kids skip classes is that they take tuitions so they think if that they missed out on their studies in school, they will surely catch it up in the coaching classes.

Classroom activities and discussions prove to be useful during exams where you can write in your own words if you can’t remember the whole answer from the book.

Opinions vary from person to person. A student achieving A+ in all subjects sees this bunking thing as a waste of time. He is always so much involved in the classroom that he can’t think of leaving it except recess and home time. He finds pleasure and good within the walls of the class room.

On the other hand, for an average student, life is all about fun and enjoyment, which they find outside the classroom.

However, the reality is that life is a combination of everything — education, learning, fun and friendships. So keeping everything in balance is necessary. Everyday bunking and every time dipped into studies can be disastrous. There is a right time, and limits too, for everything which must not be crossed. Moreover, bunking is against school/college rules, it is not the right way to have fun; you can end up in a real mess when caught.

In my opinion, running away from studies isn’t good at all. And it gets even worst when you lie to your parents about it and keep them uninformed. It is just like throwing dust in their eyes. They send you to school feeling proud that their child must be studying very hard in the school. Do don’t cheat them and yourself by bunking classes. When you will realise your mistake, it just might be too late.
