KDA, PNSC likely to revive hockey teams

KARACHI: The Karachi Hockey Association (KHA) is aspiring for re-launch of hockey teams in departments aimed at providing financial assistance to players which is vital for revival of the game.

The KHA had approached top hierarchies of the Karachi Development Authority (KHA) Nasir Abbas and the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) Arif Elahi recently in this regard.

It is pertinent to mention that both the departments used to have hockey teams in the yesteryears.

The KHA secretary former international Haider Hussain and former celebrity Samiullah have called on the KDA and the PNSC chiefs and urged them to raise teams by hiring players in their respective department

“While appreciating the cause for revival of the national game they have acceded to our proposal and hopefully a positive outcome will come soon,” the KHA secretary told Dawn.

To a question, he said in the next phase the KHA officials will approach the Karachi Port Trust (KPT), Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC), Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) and the United Bank.

All these departments used to have hockey teams that now ceased to exists, he added.

The KHA officials are also working to take back all the hockey fields that were encroached in the city.
