450 armymen on duty in Chakwal

CHAKWAL: The district administration of Chakwal has finalised arrangements for census commencing on Tuesday.

The exercise would be completed by May 25.

In this regard, the District Census Committee held a meeting which was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Omar Jahangir and attended by Brigadier Imran and other officials concerned. Assistant Director of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics Mohammad Shoaib briefed the participants about the preparations.

As many as 450 army personnel and 425 police officials would guard the 1,029 teachers who have been tasked to conduct the census.

The police personnel and teachers have been trained for the task. Around 206 vehicles have been provided to the census staff while a central control room has been set up in the city.

The additional deputy commissioner revenue has been appointed as the incharge of the control room while at the tehsil level the control rooms have been established in the offices of the assistant commissioners.

Brigadier Imran asked the officers concerned to make announcements from mosques and air messages through cable network to create awareness about the census.

According to the 1998 census, the population of Chakwal district was 1,083,725 – 518,249 men and 565,476 women.
