Bahawalpur extend Hyderabad’s misery in PCB U-19 event
KARACHI: Hyderabad’s miserable run in the ongoing PCB Inter-region Under-19 One-day Cricket Championship continued on Thursday when Bahawalpur rode on an Ali Imran century to pull off a six-wicket victory in Rawalpindi.
Opener Ali hit 116 off 138 balls with the aid of 13 boundaries while putting on 155 for the second wicket with Ali-ul-Hasan (62) as Bahawalpur chased down 261 in 14 deliveries to spare to record their third win in the Group ‘A’ game at the Pindi Cricket Stadium. Paceman Mohammad Hasnain took all four wickets to fall for 40 runs in 10 overs.
Earlier, Hyderabad — who have now lost all four fixtures they have played — reached 260-6 thanks to a third-wicket partnership of 124 between Mohammad Suleman (76 off 99 balls, six fours and one six) and Saad Khan, who struck an unbeaten 97 from 98 balls with seven fours and one six.
Dera Murad Jamali and Azad Jammu Kashmir both suffered their straight losses in the same pool. Islamabad surged to the top spot of the group standings by handing Dera Murad Jamali an eight-wicket drubbing at the Diamond Club Ground where Hammad Khan shone with three wickets and an unbeaten knock of 76.
Lahore Whites paceman Hannan Zahid grabbed 5-30 to help side whip Azad Jammu Kashmir by seven wickets at the National Ground.
Karachi Whites bounced back from their defeat to Sialkot on Tuesday to crush Faisalabad by 169 runs at the Marghazar Cricket Ground. The highlights being fine batting from opener Jahanzeb Sultan (run-a-ball 95, 12 fours and one six) and captain Ram Ravi (88 off 83, 12 fours and one six) as the two added 141 for the third wicket.
Chasing 317, Faisalabad were sent packing for 147 with off-spinner Adil Ijaz claiming 4-41.
In Group B’ action here in Karachi, the most exciting finish saw Karachi Blues edge Rawalpindi by seven runs at the NBP Sports Complex after visitors were restricted to 252-9 while chasing 260.
Lahore Blues held onto their top berth with a five-wicket defeat of Multan at the Landhi Gymkhana Ground where leg-spinner Ahmed Jalil snared four wickets for 18 runs in 9.2 overs.
Fata ended Quetta’s two-match unbeaten streak with a four-wicket win at the National with left-arm paceman and skipper Shahenshah Afridi (4-30 in nine overs) and Mohammad Ishaq (87 off 106 balls0 playing key roles for the winners.
Peshawar celebrated their second success in four outings by defeating Larkana b 57 runs at the UBL Sports Complex. Seamer Mohammad Ilyas captured four wickets for 21 runs.
