PCB summons Mohammad Nawaz

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board’s Security and Vigilance Department on Monday issued emerging all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz a notice of demand for a possible breach of PCB’s anti-corruption code by the player.

Though some sections of media some three months ago had reported that Nawaz was approached by bookies during Pakistan’s last tour to Australia that ended on Jan 26, 2017, no action against the all-rounder was initiated by the PCB then.

It is pertinent to mention here that a tribunal formed by the PCB is currently probing the Pakistan Super League (PSL) spot-fixing scam involving five players.

On Monday, the PCB in a press release stated, “PCB’s Security and Vigilance Department today [Monday] issued a notice of demand to cricketer Mohammad Nawaz in continuation of its fight against the menace of corruption in cricket. This notice of demand has been issued under Article 4.3 of the PCB Anti-Corruption Code and requires Nawaz to appear before the PCB Security and Vigilance Department for an interview in relation to possible breaches of the PCB Anti-Corruption Code.

“Due to the sensitivity of the matters under question the PCB shall not make any additional comments at this stage,” the release concluded.
