Demo staged in Chitral against power outage

CHITRAL, Aug 2: People, including shopkeepers, from the Shahi Bazaar and Raihankot staged a procession here outside marched on to the offices of the DCO to protest against the 48-hour-long suspension of power supply to their respective areas.

Officials cited a fault in a power transformer for the extended power shutdown.

PESCO authorities had assured the people about restoring the power supply but the breakdown persisted till the filing of this report.

The protesters later dispersed peacefully after warning officials to restore their power supply without delay.

Some of the consumers accused PESCO officials of negligence, saying no one had turned up to repair the transformer.

They said that PESCO’s chief executive officer had assured consumers in Chitral about uninterrupted power supply during an open kutchery held here.

PESCO’s assistant manager, operation, was not available for comments in this regard.
