Enumerators face problems in Kohat census blocks

KOHAT: The enumerators have been facing problems in the blocks which are not mentioned in the 2011 map on which the whole census exercise is based, sources say.

They said that the census authorities had summoned reserved staff for counting the huge blocks which were not part of the original incomplete map and inhibited between 2011 and 2017 in the city and rural areas.

The sources said that the enumerators had complained that they were being assigned additional wards which had been inhibited after sketching of the old map. An enumerator requesting anonymity said that he carried out census of both population and houses in the KDA town, but he was assigned additional duty. He said that later he quit the job.

When contacted, deputy education officer Haziq Khattak told this scribe that at the time of planning census, 15 per cent staff was reserved for new areas which had not been mentioned in the 2011 map.

Statistical officer Asmatullah Khattak, who is supervising the whole process, said that they had assigned 25 to 30 reserved staff in the areas which were not included in the 2011 map. “Wherever the houses exceed 350, we call in additional staff,” he said. He said that 60 per cent data had been collected from Mir Ahmedkhel and KDA town and 80 per cent from Ghamkol area, which would be compiled within two to three days. He said that census would be completed on time.

PRINCIPAL FINED: A court imposed a fine on principal of government girls higher secondary school, Gumbat, and ordered a departmental inquiry against district education officer (female) for not making changes in the date of birth of a student despite a court verdict of 2012.

A 9th class student of the school, Quratul Ain of Ghurazai Payan, had filed an application in the court in 2011for correction of here date of birth. Her correct date of birth is Oct 15, 1997.

The DEO had also issued a sanction on May 25, 2013 in this regard, but the date was not changed and her forms for the 10th class board examinations were sent. Now she had been issued a detailed marks certificate with incorrect date of birth. She contacted the court again. Civil judge-XII Riaz Aslam Davi on Friday imposed a fine of Rs10,000 on the principal and ordered a departmental inquiry against the education officer for disobeying the court orders and causing trouble to the student.
