Journalist to face FIA counterterrorism wing

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has issued a notice to journalist Taha Siddiqui, asking him to appear before its counterterrorism wing.

The undated notice directs the journalist “to appear before the [FIA inspector] at police station FIA counterterrorism wing” on May 26.

It says that non-compliance would be punishable under Section 174 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

On Tuesday, the Islamabad High Court had restrained the FIA from harassing the journalist and issued notices to two FIA officers, including its director general.

According to a petition filed by Mr Siddiqui, FIA deputy director Noman Bodla called him on May 18, asking him to appear at the FIA headquarters for interrogation.

When the petitioner asked for the reason for summoning him, the deputy director said the interrogation pertained to issues and opinion on which he had written pieces.
