Champions Trophy: Ruthless India whip Bangladesh in warm-up
LONDON: India couldn’t have hoped for a better preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy as the defending champions annihilated Bangladesh by 240 runs in their warm-up on Tuesday.
After being put into bat, India amassed 324-7.
Rohit Sharma (1) and Ajinkya Rahane (11) both got out cheaply but Shikhar Dhawan (60) and Dinesh Karthik then put on 100 before Kedar Jadhav (31) partnered Karthik in a 75-run stand.
Karthik retired out after making 94. The rest of the innings was dominated by Hardik Pandya (80 not out off 54 balls).
Bangladesh soon ran into trouble when the first three wickets fell on the same score — 11 — and the next three for the addition of another run. At 22-6, an early finish seemed imminent but Mehdi Hasan (24) and Sunzamul Islam (18) held up the Indians in a defiant partnership of 30.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Umesh Yadav took three wickets apiece as Bangladesh folded up for 84 in 23.5 overs.
