PA assured Faisalabad mosque to be reopened

LAHORE, Aug 4: Law Minister Raja Basharat on Monday assured the house that the Jamia Madni, Samanabad, Faisalabad, would be opened to the faithful within a couple of days.

The minister was responding to an adjournment motion by deputy opposition leader Rana Sanaullah.

The mosque has been lying sealed for the last four months due to a dispute between two schools of thought on the appointment of prayer leader.

Rana Sana said there was neither a proprietary dispute as the land was owned by the government itself nor any society or land-grabbing group was involved in the issue which had been highlighted even by a foreign TV channel.

Admitting that the government had learnt about the issue only through the motion, the minister denounced the local administration’s step to seal the mosque. He said the Auqaf department would make arrangements in the mosque for prayers within a couple of days.

He said the mosque had been sealed by the police to avert any law and order situation as tension was high and both the sects had got registered cases against each other. — Staff Reporter
