Three sisters drown in Indus River

MANSEHRA: Three sisters drowned in the Indus River in Dasu area of Kohistan on Saturday.

“Three girls have drowned in the Indus River, and the rescue activities launched immediately afterwards have not yet borne fruit,” Mohammad Asif, Deputy Commissioner Upper Kohistan, told reporters.

He said three daughters of Mohammad Sabir whose ages were between 12 to 18 years, drowned while taking bath in the Indus at Sakhi Abad area of Dasu.

Mr Asif said strong currents were hampering the rescue efforts to trace the victims.

A local said people of Dasu, the district headquarters of Upper Kohistan, had been thronging the Indus River in large numbers since the start of Ramazan to beat the heat amid prolonged power outages.
