Injured Wahab ruled out of Champions Trophy

LAHORE: Fast bowler Wahab Riaz, who had to leave the field after twisting his ankle during Pakistan’s opening match against India, is declared unfit to take part in remaining matches of the Champions Trophy.

The bowler conceded 87 runs in 8.4 overs.

However, another fast bowler Mohammad Amir, who also left the field after developing a cramp, is declared fit for remaining matches.

The PCB has sent an official request to the ICC Technical Committee for Wahab’s replacement.

“Wahab Riaz twisted his ankle in yesterday’s (Sunday’s) Champions Trophy match against India. A scan has confirmed that Wahab has suffered a deltoid ligament complex after an aversion injury mechanism whilst bowling during the India vs Pakistan match on June 4,” a PCB press release stated on Monday.

“It will take minimum two weeks to recover from this injury. Wahab will not be able to continue to play in remaining games of the Champions Trophy. PCB has sent the official request for his replacement to the ICC Technical Committee,” the PCB press release further said.
