Khairpur receives downpour again

KHAIRPUR, Aug 7: The rain coupled with strong winds again lashed the district on Thursday, inundating crops, residential areas, roads and streets.

It also disturbed the supply of power to the town.

The rain drains — Gaha, Jagirani, Rajpar and Samai — that received water from the Nara hills flooded some ten dehs of the UC Khanwari. The rain also damaged the date fruit and cotton crop in the district.

The people of UC Khanwari said many villages in the area had been submerged by flood water. The areas included Khanwari, Mohammad Khan Bhurgari, Odhoai, Dhand Samai, Ghohar Shar, Perayo, Pir Bakhsh, Dhonghari, Pati Boh, and Kar Aradeen.

They said the rain caused the collapse of houses of Jan Mohammad Aradeen, Jan Mohammad Chang, Ali Nawaz, Ghamo Chang, Fateh Mohammad, Bakhshan Gaho, Ghulam Chang, Ahmed Rajpar and Darya Khan.

Meanwhile, more cropped land in kutcha area in the district was inundated on Thursday due to a flood in the Indus River.

The inundated areas included KT Ghumra, KT Pir Pagaro, KT Unnar, KT Bughio, Sadiq Kalhoro, Faiz Mohammad Bindo, Deh Pandhi and Deh Mohal and Ulra Jager.

Growers told journalists that banana, cotton and other seasonal crops standing over 800 acres were submerged by flood water.

RESIGNATION: A woman member of the district council, Raina Shah, resigned as member of the district health committee on Wednesday. She said she was quitting due to lack of interest of the chairman of the committee. She said no meeting had been called despite a passage of eight months.
