Meteoric rise of cricket team infuses new spirit among young sailors

KARACHI: The meteoric rise of Pakistan cricket team to the zenith in the recently-held ICC Champions Trophy has infused a new spirit among youth of all sports in the country.

This was visible during three basic sailing courses conducted by the Pakistan Youth Sailing Association (PYSA) in collaboration with the PAF Yacht Club, Korangi Creek, during Ramazan.

Taking lesson from the national cricket team’s stunning triumph in the premier ICC event where they outclassed arch-rivals India by 180 runs in the final, the participants showed eagerness to sharpen their skills quickly, officials on the spot underlined.

The participants of the courses were informed about different parts of the boat, how to sail in different directions, capsize and recovery drill among other things.

Over 70 young boys and girls learnt basics of the sport from retired Capt A.R. Arshad. Each course spread over eight days. The participants will undergo advanced training later.

The PYSA and the PAF Yacht Club have joined hands to revive sailing.

Meanwhile, the certificate presentation ceremony was held at the PAF Yacht Club on Friday.

Base Commander Air Crde Ibrahim Asad, who graced the occasion, awarded the certificates to the participants. Capt Arshad and Group Capt Adeel were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest advised the youth to continue their hard work and compete at the club and national level in the days to come.
