Police arrest killers of vaccinator in Swabi

SWABI: Police have arrested two persons for their involvement in the murder of EPI technician Sohail Khan, said district police officer Mohammad Sohaib Ashraf while addressing a press conference.

Sohail Khan was killed in Naranji area about a week ago when he was returning home from the local basic health unit.

The murder of EPI technician had caused a lot of concern among the paramedics and health sector employees of the district as it was presumed that he had been targeted by miscreants.

The health employees had also staged a protest demonstration soon after the incident.

A special team comprising DSP Razar, SHO Parmoli and investigation officer was constituted to trace the attackers.

The investigation team employed the cellular forensics and human intelligence for the purpose.

During investigations, it was revealed that the EPI technician had been murdered by one Nasir on the basis of misunderstanding.

The DPO said that Nasir had laid ambush to target another EPI technician Roz Amin who also worked in the same BHU with Mr Sohail.

He said that Nasir suspected that Mr Amin had illicit relations with his wife.

He said that on the day of occurrence both Mr Sohail and Mr Amin had left the BHU at almost the same time.

The police have also arrested Nasir’s cousin.

DPO Ashraf said that the investigation team traced and arrested Nasir and that he had confessed to his crime.

The police have also ascertained identities of his two accomplices.

Meanwhile, police arrested 30 suspects in an operation in Topi tehsil on Saturday.

Sources said that the suspects had been taken to the district headquarters for investigation.

In a related development, sources said that a facilitator of five suspected militants who were killed during an operation on March 7 in Malikabad area had been arrested.
