Rescue 1122 holds flood relief drill in Sialkot
SIALKOT: The Rescue 1122 conducted a massive mock flood relief exercise in BRB Canal near Pasrur on Sunday.
Rescuers and divers displayed their skills and capabilities to avert recurring flood threat. Acting Deputy Commissioner Dr Umer Sher Chattha, District Emergency Officer Syed Kamal Abid and journalists witnessed the exercise.
The rescuers also provided emergency relief and infrastructural help to mock flood victims showing their preparedness.
Dr Chattha told the media that Sialkot district had been divided into 22 sectors to avert flood threats under a foolproof plan. He added that 33 flood relief centres had been established in Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur tehsils.
SMUGGLING: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) foiled a smuggling attempt and arrested two suspects near Sambrial.
According to senior ANF officials, Gull Naz and Nadia had brought hash from Peshawar to Sialkot. On a tip-off, the ANF team arrested them during special checking near Sambrial. They also seized 2.4kg of fine quality hash worth millions of rupees.
The ANF sent the suspects behind bars after registering a case against them. Further investigation was under way.
RAPE: Muradpur police registered a case against a suspect for allegedly raping his sister-in-law at her house in the Gohadpur locality for six months. Police started an investigation with no arrests until the filing of this report.
