Kohat gets first woman AC, hospital MS
KOHAT: The provincial government has appointed two ladies as the first assistant commissioner and medical superintendent of a hospital in Kohat.
It is for the first time that women would be working on such senior posts in the district.
The two officers have proved that females could work on responsible posts while dealing with domestic life at the same time.
Ms Gul Bano has become the first lady assistant commissioner in Kohat. She is a CSP officer who qualified for Pakistan Administrative Services and assumed the role as a district administration officer in Kohat district.
It is her first posting as AC and after taking formal charge she would start working in office from Monday next.
Dr Gule Rana, who graduated from the Khyber Medical College in 1981 as gynaecologist, has been assigned as the first female medical superintendent of Women and Children Hospital, Kohat.
She is a grade-19 officer and belongs to Hangu district.
Earlier, she was working as coordinator national health programme at the office of district health officer, Kohat.
The Women and Children Hospital was being run by a male administrator since 2003.
A lady doctor commented that there was still a lot to be done as all the staff in emergency was male and the women patients did not feel at ease during checkups.
“Women will now feel at ease to approach a lady officer for solution of their routine problems which they were shy of discussing with the male officers,” said Musarrat Shafi, also one of the first lady lawyers here.
She hoped that the problems related to women would now be dealt in a more effective manner.
About the new AC, she said that it was yet to be seen whether she carried on the anti-encroachment and price checking drives like her predecessors and encourage the female civil society members in their cause.
