Aqeel, Ushna clinch tennis titles

LAHORE: Top seed Aqeel Khan and second seed Ushna Suhail won men’s and ladies titles respectively in the Pakistan Open Tennis Championships here on Saturday.

Hot favourite Aqeel brushed aside Abid Ali in the two-setter final with the score being 7-5, 6-1 to win the main title.

On the other hand, Ushna defeated top seed Sara Mansoor 6-2, 6-3 to lift the trophy. In men’s double final, Aqeel and Heera Ashiq again beat Mohammad Abid pairing with Usman Rafique 6-3, 6-2 to clinch the title.

In the 35-plus seniors doubles, Rashid Malik and Aqeel Khan beat Shehryar Slamat and Talha Waheed 6-2, 6-3 to lift the title.

In 45-plus seniors doubles, Asif Feroz and Arif Feroz defeated Khyber Pakhtun­khwa’s Israr Gul and Jaha­nzeb 6-4, 6-4 to win the title.

The U-18 boys’ final was won by top seed Yousuf Khan of Khyber Pakhtu­nkhwa who toppled third-seeded Moham­mad Sohaib of Khyber Pakht­unkhwa 6-4, 6-2, with Moha­m­mad Shoaib who outclassed Nouman Aftab of Karachi 6-4, 6-1 clinched the Under-16 title.
