Nazim opens sports complex in Kohat
KOHAT: District nazim Naseem Afridi inaugurated a sports complex in the Company Park here on Saturday.
The complex has a boxing and wrestling ring and judo ground. Local players displayed their skills and got appreciation from the nazim and others present on this occasion.
Addressing the participants, Mr Afridi said that the provincial government was keen to regularly hold sports competitions and promote healthy activities at the union council level.
The nazim said that provision of sports facilities to the youth would help keep them away from drugs. He announced that sports grounds would be constructed at the tehsil level and then at the union council level, which would bring the best talent forward for district and provincial level teams.
CONVICTED: An anti-terrorism court convicted two accused in the murder case of four customs officials and awarded them 14-year jail term each on Saturday.
Five persons, including Wajid, Nabeel, Sajid, Hamid Mir and Ismail, had allegedly killed four customs officials checking vehicles on Hangu road on April 14, 2014 after looting a CNG station. Wajid and Nabeel were arrested on the spot and tried in the ATC court.
Judge Gohar Rehman awarded 14-year prison term each to the two and declared the other three as absconders.
DETONATORS SEIZED: Police seized explosive material and detonators from a truck on the Indus Highway in Lachi here on Saturday.
SP operations Jamil Akhtar told a press conference at Lachi police station that following a tip-off a team was deployed on the road near Lachi. During checking a truck was signaled to stop, but the driver sped away.
The police party chased it, but the two suspects abandoned the vehicle and went into a nearby jungle. The SP said that the seized items included 50 kilogrammes of highly explosive material, 6,000 detonators and 1,200 metres detonating wire.
The police have registered a case against the suspects under the anti-terrorism law.
