Azadi Train gets warm welcome in Sahiwal

SAHIWAL: A charged crowd welcomed the Azadi Train at the Sahiwal Railway Station late on Thursday.

The train, carrying cultural floats, caused fun and festivity at the station on Friday. Folk singers performed live music at train galleries.

The train consists of eight of floats and five galleries exhibiting the culture of four provinces and Gilgit-Baltistan besides the Pakistan Movement pictures.

One float depicts Gandhara art with the statue of Buddhas to show cultural and religious diversity.

The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor progress in Balochistan is also shown at one of the floats.

Muhammad Kamran Siddiqui is traveling in the train as a face painter artist. He painted Pakistani flag on children’s faces and hands.

After a 12-hour stopover, the train left Sahiwal for Khanewal.

A huge contingent of police was deployed at the station. Rebca (20) had come from village 86/6-R to see the train.

She told Dawn the floats gave her a better understanding about the Pakistan geography, culture and people.

People brought also brought their children to the station.

The train will conclude its journey at Karachi Railway Station on Sept 6.
