Faisal Mota’s appeal

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court has not set aside the death sentence of Faisal Mehmood alias Mota in the 2011 murder case of TV journalist Wali Khan Babar, but ordered rehearing of his appeal against the trial court’s order.

The order issued by the Larkana bench of the Sindh High Court on Aug 16 said that the matter was reserved but while dictating the same “it appears that some further assistance is required from the learned counsel for the appellant as well as DPG [deputy prosecutor general]”.

“In the circumstances, let this case be listed for rehearing on 21-09-2017 after intimation to the counsel for the appellant who comes from Karachi,” reads the court order.

Earlier, this paper had reported that the high court set aside the death sentence of Mota and ordered retrial in the relevant court. The error is regretted.
