Maryam hits out at detractors

LAHORE: Ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz on Saturday took on the judiciary and the establishment during her campaign in NA-120.

She once again questioned the Panama Papers case verdict. “Why there was a hurry to send Nawaz Sharif home as only one year was left in the 2018 general election,” she asked while speaking at the PML-N traders’ convention in Mozang.

Maryam picked up the criticism of the judiciary and the establishment where her father had left before leaving for London to see his ailing wife, Begum Kulsoom.

Seeking votes for her mother in NA-120 by-poll to be held on Sept 17, Maryam said Nawaz Sharif was ousted because the victory of the PML-N was expected in the 2018 election.

She also criticised Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan for “playing in the hands of the establishment”. She asked him why he was seeking votes from the people of Lahore who he often criticised for being given priority in development by the Punjab government.

AYAZ SADIQ: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has said all institutions should work within the constitutional limits to avoid clash.

Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, he reiterated: “We have accepted the Supreme Court’s decision to disqualify Nawaz Sharif but we don’t agree with it.”

He said Begum Kulsoom Nawaz would win the NA-120 election.
