Rawalpindi condemn AJK to another two-day thrashing
KARACHI: For the second straight fixture in the PCB Under-19 Inter-region National Cricket Championship, the losers were the same as was the venue as Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK) capitulated to another two-day defeat here on Monday.
Rawalpindi emulated what did Peshawar in the first round last week, by handing the hapless AJK side a two-day drubbing by an innings and 66 runs at the State Bank f Pakistan (SBP) Sports Complex in North Nazimabad.
After Rawalpindi had extended their overnight total from 165-3 to 233-5, AJK suffered yet another batting failure by getting bowled out for 99 to follow their miserable Sunday’s tally of 68 in the first innings.
The damage was inflicted by the left-arm spin of Farhan Shafiq, who claimed 6-27 in 17.1 overs to finish with analysis of 10-53.
Peshawar were on cusp of a second successive victory as Fata stumbled to 28-3 in their chase for 179 at the NBP Sports Complex with Mohammad Ilyas again leading their charge.
After top-scoring with 53 on day one, Ilyas followed up his bowling figures of 6-42 in 20 overs with an undefeated contribution of 51 in Peshawar’s second-innings score of 163.
Earlier, Peshawar obtained a slim 15-run advantage as Fata were dismissed for 138.
Karachi Blues were also closing in on a second win on the trot after taking a substantial 123-run lead by piling up 320 against Hyderabad at the UBL Sports Complex.
Opener Imran Shah was unlucky to miss scoring a century by only four runs when he was trapped LBW by paceman Noman Akbar for 96 (14 fours and two sixes).
Hyderabad then stuttered to 71-4 at stumps.
Quetta’s slow left-armer Mohammad Junaid starred with eight wickets for 42 runs but his brilliant work is unlikely to prevent Larkana emerging winners at the Lahore Country Club in Muridke on Tuesday’s final day.
By close of play, Quetta were in the mire at 54-5 while chasing 199.
