Woman allegedly beaten, set on fire

ISLAMABAD: A man allegedly beat and set fire to his wife in a rural area of the capital, police said on Wednesday.

The victim has nominated her husband and her father-in-law, mother-in-law and brother-in-law in the case, which was registered in response to her complaint under Pakistan Penal Code section 324.

The alleged attack occurred at a house near Banni Stop in the Golra area, police said. The victim and her husband fought over a domestic matter, after which her husband physically assaulted her, resulting in injuries to her head and hand, they added.

They said the victim’s in-laws tried to silence her and overpower her, and her father-in-law allegedly brought kerosene oil that her husband sprinkled on her before setting her on fire.

Police said the victim lost consciousness, and received burn injuries on her body. They said she asked her husband to take her to her parents’ house in Kohat, but he refused.

The victim managed to escape to her parents’ home in Kohat, and returned to the capital with her family to lodge a complaint with the Golra police.

The victim’s brother, Sayed Khan, said his sister’s in-laws tried to immolate her over a domestic matter.
