Opp motion in PA against protocol to Nawaz

LAHORE: Opposition in the Punjab Assembly has decided to raise in the house the issue of extending official protocol to ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif during his stay in the federal capital.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf-backed opposition leader in Punjab Assembly Mian Mahmoodur Rashid on Tuesday submitted an adjournment motion to the assembly secretariat wherein it was stated that 1,200 commandos and officials of law-enforcement agencies were deputed for the security of a disqualified person during his appearance in an Islamabad accountability court.

The vicinity, it said, was made a no-go area for the citizens, causing inconvenience to students going to attend their educational institutions and those joining their offices.

The motion also questioned use of the Punjab House, a property of the provincial government, for the press conference of Mr Nawaz in which the judiciary was ridiculed.

Nawaz in city: Ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif arrived here on Tuesday from Islamabad.

After appearing in the accountability court and addressing a press conference in Islamabad, he arrived in Lahore by a special plane and left for his Jati Umrah residence amid high security.

Nawaz will hold meetings with party leaders today (Wednesday). He is likely to leave for London on Thursday to see her ailing wife Begum Kulsoom. After undergoing three surgeries for lymphoma (throat cancer) her chemotherapy is scheduled in coming days.
