Bilawal House road closed

KARACHI: A main road leading to Bilawal House has been closed for some development work, a senior official said on Wednesday.

He said one of the two carriageways from Bilawal Chowrangi to Bilawal House was closed for repair of an oil pipeline lying under the road by a private contractor.

“Other carriageway is open to traffic for vehicles moving in both directions,” said Ejaz Ahmed Sheikh, SP south of traffic police.

“This is a temporary closure and once the work is done, the road would be open to traffic again.

However, it’s necessary to mention here that the pipeline work would also engage the other carriageway once one side is completed. In that case one of the two carriageways would remain open to traffic.”

In 2013, the Sindh High Court ordered removal of roadblocks from certain landmarks across Karachi that included Governor House, Chief Minister House and Bilawal House.

However, it was in March 2015, when barriers and barricades placed outside Bilawal House were removed following orders given by Pakistan People’s Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.

The road at Bilawal House was barricaded and blocked for public use after it was accorded the status of former president Asif Zardari’s camp office between 2008 and 2013.
