Cross-border attack in Khyber Agency claims life of security official, says ISPR

A security official, Naib-subedar Azher Ali, lost his life in an alleged terrorist attack on the Pakistani post in Khyber Agency from across the Afghan border, read a statement issued by the military's media wing on Tuesday.

The Pakistani post located in the area near Mustil Pass, an important passage between Afghanistan and Rajgal valley in Khyber Agency, was attacked from across the border, claimed Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Ali's funeral prayers were offered at Peshawar Garrison. He will be laid to rest in his native town with full military honour.

Last month, a 22-year-old lieutenant also lost his life in an attack from across the Afghan border.

The army recently concluded Operation Khyber IV in the Rajgal valley and declared that the area was cleared off terrorists. However, ISPR Director General Asif Ghafoor had said that the army cannot carry out operations against terror elements present on Afghan soil.

"We took action in the border belt area at the cost of certain reservations from Afghanistan; but we cannot take action against terrorist infrastructure deep inside Afghanistan as a responsible country, as it is a sovereign country and has their own force, and the Resolute Support mission is also there," he had said.
