14 players through in Subh-e-Nau Tennis

ISLAMABAD: As many as 14 players qualified for the main rounds of the men’s singles and boys under-18 category after winning their respective matches on opening day of Subh-e-Nau National Clay Court Tennis Champ­ionship, being played here at PTF Complex on Sunday.

According to the tournament organisers, it has attracted a record number of players in every category, especially in the ladies singles category, which is featuring 32 participants.

Those players who qualified for the main round of the men’s singles category after winning three matches each include Huzaifa Abdul Rehman, Kamran Nisar, Tahirullah, Jibarn-ul-Haq, Ameer-ul-Haq and M. Shoaib. Two matches of this category could not be completed due to rain.

Main round matches of men’s singles will be played on Monday featuring Pakistan’s veteran players Aqeel Khan, Yasir Khan, M. Abid among others.

Eight players, namely Bakhta Sajid Jamal, Hasan bin Musaffir, Abdul Rehman Ch, Abdullah Shafaqat, Kamran Khan, Muhammad bin Mufassir, Shaeel Tahir and Uzair Khan qualified for the main round of the boys under-18, after winning two matches each.

Whereas, first round matches of the ladies singles category will be played on Monday in the afternoon — featuring the likes of Sara Mahboob, Ushna Suhail and Sara Mansoor. The first round matches of the boys under-14 and under-10 category will also be played on Monday.
